The serrations enhance turbulence in the fluid passing around the tube, promoting a better transfer of heat as it disrupts the laminar flow that can occur over smooth surfaces. In one world, such design of serrated finned tube maximizes the surface area available for heat exchange.
Carbon steel, including ASME SA192, is generally less expensive than stainless steel and many alloy steels. This makes it a cost-effective choice for large-scale applications where budget constraints are a consideration.While stainless steel has good thermal conductivity, carbon steel also performs adequately for heat exchange applications. When serrated fins are added, the combination of increased surface area and the carbon steel base tube can lead to efficient heat transfer.
